About the project
A listed Wilhelminian-style building in downtown Stuttgart was upgraded for new office use. Kanteplan took on the structural evaluation, the upgrade planning, and the fire protection concept.
The Task
The new use required higher ceiling loads and modern escape routes without damaging the protected existing structure. Historic timber joist ceilings and exposed facades had to be preserved.
Our Solution
Instead of comprehensive replacement, the timber joist ceilings were selectively reinforced with steel profiles. The performance-based fire protection concept compensated for structural limitations through systems engineering measures, coordinated with the heritage authority and the structural testing engineer.
The Result
The existing structure was preserved, and approval was granted without any disputes over conditions. The building has been in use as modern office space since the beginning of 2025.
